Blown Away: 1937 Morgan Giles, Clinker, elm on oak, cutter.

Blown Away is a small but surprisingly practical classic yacht. Eligible to race the amazing Med circuit. Owned by current boat builder owner since 1990. In Fantastic condition throughout. A genuine turn key vessel and a great sailing boat. Beautiful Walnut and Oak deeply varnished interior with 5’5” Headroom.  Brightly lit by 16 port-lights and new lamps. Upholstered in leather. Triple companion way doors in pitch pine with incredible brass latches. Many extras not normally found on so small a boat: Oven with two hobs and grill. 15 litre fridge (top loading). Solid Oak sink with lifting lid. Cupboards and lockers all over. Fold away table. Large double bunk and for when it’s cold a stainless Taylors diesel heater with pump and chimney (works when sailing). A top of the range Kenwood Cassette/radio and 10 CD changer with 4 speakers is enough for any occasion.

Blown Away is constantly maintained and up graded without consideration of cost. Completely rebuilt in 1990-93 she is in excellent condition and does not have an electric bilge pump fitted which says a lot. She comes with a great cockpit tent which is waterproof and seals up the self draining cockpit completely. Cockpit is all varnished pitch pine trimmed in oak with 3 lockers, 2 manual bilge pumps and a beautiful Brass engine lever. 75 litre Stainless Water and diesel tanks with sight gauges, 20 litre 230 v insulated hot water tank with shower and pump.

Most fittings on the epoxy covered decks are in Bronze. Engraved Meissner bronze classic winches with hats. Beautiful removable teak skylight. Brass for hatch. Mast is hollow spruce in a tabernacle and all the rigging is recent. Main sail, Staysail and Yankee in Tan cloth also a 400 sq feet MPS and spruce spinnaker pole, housed at front of mast. Bowsprit can be shipped. Yanmar diesel Engine has Halyard aquadrive coupling and soundproofing. Engine installation excellent and quiet with little vibration. 55 amp alternator fitted. Access to engine through cabin or cockpit floor. Two batteries, automatic charger. 600 watt inverter. Fortress and Danforth anchors.

Blown Away is a fascinating yacht. Absolutely one of a kind, yet well proven, fast and comfortable. 5 knots cruising under motor easily. 6 knot averages under sail not uncommon. With 400 sq’ MPS have seen over 7.5kts. Blown Away comes with much paperwork. She has proof of VAT exemption and is registered on the SSR and flies a Red Ensign. A before and after book shows her restoration. Her log book shows visits to over 100 ports in England, France, Spain and Italy. Over 80 people have signed her visitors book. She has been featured many times in Yachting magazines and is a regular visitor to the classic yacht regattas here in the Med. Blown Away has been photographed by some of the best photographers on the scene. All in all, a beautiful and unique piece of Britain’s maritime heritage.

Blown Away is in pristine condition at all times. She has a much better finish than most classic yachts. Her varnish is superb, flat and shiny. She is ready to go. A very rare annual berth is available near St Tropez, France with Blown Away for about 2000€ a year. I can be on hand to continue maintaining Blown Away if necessary. I am keen to sell and move on to other things. I am asking £16,500 only. I have spent nearly double that and cannot even begin to count the thousands of hours of work. Come and see her, you won’t be disappointed and I am open to offers. For more details get in touch. I wish you fair winds and blue skies.
